FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to common questions about Mocap Atlas products, file formats, licensing, downloads, and how our motion capture data is produced.

What is Mocap Atlas?

Mocap Atlas is an online store for professional motion capture and animation assets created by Quantum Stage GmbH, a Swiss motion capture studio. The animations are recorded in our own studio using real human actors and professional motion capture workflows.

Is the animation data AI-generated?

No. Mocap Atlas products are based on real human performance captured in a professional studio. We do not use AI-generated motion or synthetic animation as the source of our animation data.

What am I buying?

You are buying access to the specific animation format, rig, or bundle selected on the product page. Each product may show several available deliverables, but the selected variant determines what is included in your purchase.

Why does the product page say "What's available"?

Many Mocap Atlas products are available in multiple formats or rig variations. The "What's available" section shows the formats or deliverables that exist for that animation. It does not mean that every listed format is included in every individual variant price.

Do I need to buy a full bundle?

No. Mocap Atlas is designed around flexible, à la carte access. In many cases, you can buy only the format or rig version your project needs instead of paying for a larger package. Complete bundles may also be available for customers who want all available deliverables for a motion clip.

What is raw mocap source data?

Raw mocap source data is intended for artists, animators, technical directors, and studios who want access to the original motion capture performance for their own post-production pipeline. Raw mocap products are not final edited gameplay clips. They may include the full recorded performance from start to end, including setup, calibration, T-pose sections, or extra motion before and after the main action.

Are the files game-ready?

Some products or variants may be prepared for common rigs or game workflows, while others are raw source files for further processing. Prepared and retargeted versions are useful starting points, but you should still expect to review, trim, blend, edit, retarget, and integrate the animation according to your own project needs.

Do the animation files include a character mesh?

Unless clearly stated otherwise on the product page, Mocap Atlas products are animation data only. They do not include a character model, mesh, textures, or a full game character setup.

Which formats are available?

Available formats depend on the specific product. Products may include options such as raw FBX, BVH, C3D, prepared FBX, retargeted animation files, reference video, or complete bundle ZIPs. Please check the selected product variant and the format information on the product page before purchasing.

What if I need a format that is not listed?

If you need a different format, rig, or delivery setup, please contact us before purchasing. We may be able to prepare a custom export or recommend the closest available option for your pipeline.

How should I evaluate the animation before buying?

Please review the product video carefully before purchasing. Our data is quality checked, but small mocap noise can remain, especially in raw source data. Some clips may also include optical finger noise depending on the capture setup and available finger data.

Why do some clips include extra motion before or after the main action?

Many products are based on full studio mocap recordings rather than short, hand-cut final animation clips. This can be useful for post-production because it gives you more context and more motion to work with, but it also means you may need to trim the file to the exact section you want to use.

What are movement patterns such as circle, snake, square, diamond, or star?

Some motion libraries include structured movement patterns designed for testing, animation systems, motion matching, or locomotion research. These patterns can help artists and developers evaluate changes in direction, acceleration, turning, spacing, and transitions across a longer performance.

For more details, see the Movement Pattern Guide .

How do I receive my downloads after purchase?

After a paid order is completed, Mocap Atlas sends a download email to the checkout email address. You can also access purchased files through the customer download library.

What is a complete bundle ZIP?

When a complete bundle is available, it is delivered as a single ZIP file for that animation. The ZIP groups the available files by format or variant so the package is easier to download, store, and navigate.

I did not receive my download email. What should I do?

First, check the email address used at checkout and look in your spam or junk folder. You can also open the download library from your customer account. If you still cannot access your files, contact us with your order number and the email address used for the purchase.

Can I use Mocap Atlas assets in commercial projects?

Commercial use depends on the license selected at purchase. Please review the license information on the product page and during checkout to make sure the selected license matches your project, team size, and intended use.

Can I resell or redistribute the animation files?

No. Mocap Atlas assets are sold for use inside your own production or project. The source files, animation data, and downloaded assets may not be resold, repackaged, redistributed, shared as a competing asset product, or made available as a standalone download.

Can I use the data for AI or machine learning training?

No. Mocap Atlas animation data is not licensed for AI training, machine learning datasets, model training, motion synthesis datasets, or similar data-extraction use unless you have a separate written agreement with Quantum Stage GmbH.

Who creates the Mocap Atlas animations?

Mocap Atlas is produced by Quantum Stage GmbH in Switzerland. The store is run by a small independent team with a focus on motion capture, performance, animation quality, and practical production use.

Is the store still growing?

Yes. Mocap Atlas is currently in soft launch, and more motion libraries, animation sets, formats, and game-ready assets are planned. Join the email list to get updates when new animations are released.
